Chennai, Aug. 27:

Former Tamil Nadu minister and DMK MLA P K Sekarbabu was questioned by Chennai City Police for nearly four hours on Wednesday in connection with a case registered over an alleged clash involving TVK functionaries on the day of the Assembly election.

Sekarbabu appeared before the police as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident reported from the Mannadi area in the Harbour Assembly constituency.

The case relates to an alleged altercation between Sekarbabu’s supporters and workers of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on April 23, when polling was held for the Tamil Nadu Assembly election.

Police had earlier registered a case based on a complaint from TVK Harbour candidate Sinora Ashok, who alleged that party workers were attacked during a dispute in the area.

Sekarbabu and some of his supporters were subsequently booked in connection with the incident. The case reportedly includes serious allegations arising out of the poll-day confrontation.

During Wednesday’s questioning, investigators sought details from the former minister regarding the sequence of events and the allegations levelled in the complaint.

The police inquiry comes months after the election-day clash and is part of the continuing investigation into political violence reported during the polling process.

The questioning of the senior DMK leader is expected to intensify the political spotlight on the case, particularly as the investigation involves workers and leaders associated with rival political parties.

Police are continuing their investigation and are expected to examine other witnesses and evidence connected to the incident.
