Chennai, Sept 1:
Toll charges at 26 toll plazas across Tamil Nadu have been increased from midnight on September 1, with hikes ranging from ₹5 to ₹395 depending on the category of vehicle.

The revised rates have come into effect at plazas including Vikravandi in Villupuram, Mettupatti and Nathakkarai in Salem, Ulundurpet and Veeracholapuram in Kallakurichi, Samayapuram in Tiruchy, Eliyarpathi in Madurai, Pudur Pandiyapuram in Thoothukudi, Manavasi and Aravakurichi in Karur, and Vijayamangalam in Erode.

Of the 77 toll plazas on national highways in Tamil Nadu, charges at 60 plazas were revised on April 1. The remaining 26 plazas have now undergone their annual revision with effect from September 1.

At the Vikravandi toll plaza, the single-journey fee for cars, jeeps and passenger vans has been increased from ₹105 to ₹110. The fee for multiple journeys has gone up from ₹160 to ₹165, while the monthly pass has increased from ₹3,170 to ₹3,300.

For light commercial vehicles, the single-journey charge has risen from ₹185 to ₹190, while the multiple-journey fee has increased from ₹275 to ₹290. The monthly pass has been revised from ₹5,545 to ₹5,770.

For trucks and buses, the single-journey fee has increased from ₹370 to ₹385, while the multiple-journey charge has risen from ₹555 to ₹575. The monthly pass has gone up from ₹11,085 to ₹11,545.

For multi-axle heavy vehicles, the single-journey fee has been increased from ₹595 to ₹620, while the multiple-journey charge has risen from ₹890 to ₹930. The monthly pass has been revised from ₹17,820 to ₹18,555.

At the Sengurichi and Thirumandurai toll plazas in the Ulundurpet region of Kallakurichi district, the revised fee for cars, jeeps and passenger vans has been fixed at ₹70 for a single journey, ₹105 for multiple journeys and ₹2,125 for a monthly pass.

Local residents living within a 20-km radius of the toll plaza are eligible for a concessional monthly pass. The pass for local private vehicles is around ₹350.

National Highway toll charges are revised annually under the National Highways (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008. Factors including inflation and the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) are taken into account while revising the rates.

Toll plazas at Porur–Vanagaram in Chennai, Paranur in Chengalpattu, Nallur near Sengundram and Pattarai Perumbudur–Nallur in Tiruvallur had their rates revised in April and therefore have not undergone another revision now.

There has been no increase in toll charges for school vehicles, according to the revised tariff.
