New Delhi, Sept 4:
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has begun identifying government institutions that could be converted into computer-based testing centres for the NEET-UG examination, with the agency seeking assistance from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
The move comes as the medical entrance examination is being planned in computer-based mode, requiring a much larger network of institutions equipped with computers, internet connectivity and other examination infrastructure.
The NTA has asked the AICTE to collect details of government-run institutions, including their available computers, IT infrastructure, connectivity, CCTV facilities and vacant space that could be used for conducting examinations.
AICTE has subsequently sought the required infrastructure details from eligible higher education institutions to help create a wider network of standard testing centres.
The exercise is aimed at ensuring that adequate examination capacity is available across the country when NEET-UG moves to the computer-based format.
The NTA’s decision follows concerns over the logistical challenges involved in conducting one of India’s largest entrance examinations and the need for secure and standardised testing infrastructure.
