Bhopal, Sept 7:
The death toll in the suspected spurious liquor tragedy in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district has risen to 12, with one more person succumbing during treatment, while police have arrested 14 people in connection with the sale of illicit liquor.
The incident was reported from four villages near Banda tehsil, around 30 km from Sagar. Several people who allegedly consumed the liquor developed symptoms including severe headache and vomiting before collapsing and being rushed to hospitals.
Eleven people had died earlier, while 54 others were undergoing treatment. With another death reported during treatment, the toll has now reached 12. More than 30 people continue to remain under medical observation.
Police have registered a case against 30 people and launched an investigation into the supply and sale of the suspected spurious liquor. So far, 14 people have been arrested, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining accused.
