Chennai, Sept 7:
A 26-year-old youth was killed after a car belonging to Tamil Nadu Social Welfare and Women’s Rights Minister Jagadeeswari collided with his two-wheeler near Kattankulathur in Chengalpattu district on Monday morning.
The minister was travelling from Virudhunagar to Chennai to attend the ongoing Assembly session after the weekend holidays. A security vehicle was travelling ahead of the minister’s official vehicle, followed by the Maruti Ertiga carrying her family members.
The accident occurred when the two-wheeler unexpectedly crossed the road and was hit by the minister’s car. The rider, identified as Iraiyanbu of Virudhunagar, suffered severe injuries and died at the spot.
Traffic investigation police reached the scene, recovered the body and sent it to Chengalpattu Government Hospital for post-mortem. The accident caused temporary traffic congestion in the area.
Police have seized the car and taken the driver to the police station for questioning. CCTV footage from the area is being examined to determine whether speeding or loss of control contributed to the accident. Further investigation is underway.
