Washington: Several US military aircraft were damaged in an Iranian missile attack on the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, according to a CBS report.
One A-10 Thunderbolt, popularly known as the Warthog, reportedly lost a wing, while around eight F-15 fighter jets suffered minor damage.
US forces reportedly fired more than 30 Patriot missiles to defend the base. Most of the Iranian missiles were intercepted, and no US casualties were reported in the attack.
The base hosts dozens of American warplanes and serves as a key airpower hub for US operations against Iran.
The attack came after the US struck and sank five Iranian oil tankers. Iran subsequently claimed that it had launched retaliatory attacks on US bases and vessels in the region.
The latest escalation has further heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with the conflict also threatening regional security and energy supplies.
