Beijing, Sep 11:
The death toll from rain-triggered landslides in southeastern China’s Jiangxi province has risen to 16, state media reported on Thursday, after search teams recovered another body.
The deaths were reported across three towns in Suichuan county, where heavy rain lashed the area for several days following Typhoon Saudel’s landfall on China’s east coast.
A mudslide in Gaoping town killed 13 people, state broadcaster CCTV reported. Two others were found dead in Zuo’an town and another in Tanghu town.
More than 18,000 people have been evacuated from Suichuan county, according to the official Xinhua News Agency, as rescue and search operations continued in the affected areas.
