Acclaimed actress Nimisha Sajayan, known for her natural performances and emotional depth, is awaiting the the release of Enna Vilai.
In an interaction ahead of the release, Nimisha spoke about choosing the character, her emotional response when the role was offered to her, her co-stars and why she believes the film will leave a lasting impression on audiences.
Enna Vilai, written and directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Sajeev Pazhoor, is rooted in a socially relevant premise. The film follows a man whose livelihood is linked to the coins offered by devotees to the sea near Rameswaram. His struggle for survival and dignity gradually develops into a larger legal battle, bringing questions of justice, livelihood and human dignity into focus.The film also features Karunaas, Vijayalakshmi Veeramani, Saasha among others.
Excerpts from her interview:
Q: How did you come on board Enna Vilai?
A: When Sajeev narrated the story to me, he did not tell me which character he had in mind for me. He simply said, âOkay, now you pick.â There were two beautifully written characters, and Rishiâs character was also brilliantly written. I was genuinely curious and a little sceptical about whether he was considering me for Vijayalakshmiâs character or Kanchana. Honestly, I was happy either way. I was completely open to taking up Vijiâs character because I really liked the space the character offered.
Q: Did you have a preference between the two characters?
A: I already had a soft corner for Kanchanaâs character. So, when Sajeev finally told me that the character was Kanchana, I was overwhelmed. I was almost in tears. I just hugged him and asked, âWhy did you do this?â I wasnât sure which character he was going to offer me because both were so beautifully and strongly written. But the moment he said, âItâs you,â it became a very emotional moment for me.
Q: What makes Enna Vilai special for you?
A: The beauty of Enna Vilai is that every character has a deep emotional arc. That is what makes the film special. I am so glad that the press and media fraternity has received the film so warmly. It is a bliss to receive such heartfelt appreciation for my character.
Q: How was your experience working with Karunaas?
A: I didnât have many combination scenes with Karunaas sir, but his performance is extraordinary. He has done a wonderful job in the film.
Q: What do you think about Vijayalakshmiâs character and performance?
A: Vijayalakshmiâs character is also very hard-hitting, and she has excelled as a performer. Every character in the film has been given its own emotional space.
Q: What would you like to say about director Sajeev Pazhoor?
A: Director Sajeev deserves all the credit for bringing these characters to life. The way he has created the emotional world of the film is something I really appreciate.
Q: What can audiences expect from Enna Vilai?
A: I am sure Enna Vilai will remain a memorable film for cinema lovers.
