Actor Rishikanth, who recently made his debut as a lead actor with Modha Rathiri, has opened up about his long journey in Tamil cinema, saying entering the industry may be easy but sustaining oneself is the real challenge.
Rishikanth began his career with the online sketch group Temple Monkeys and took around 15 years to establish himself as a leading actor. He said his lack of connections in Chennai initially made his journey slower, but he also felt that the years of waiting helped him understand what he needed to improve.
The actor said that whenever an opportunity did not come his way, he considered himself not yet ready and used the time to analyse his shortcomings and prepare himself better.
Rishikanth is now leading Modha Rathiri, directed by debutant Raja Karuppasamy. The rural comedy drama revolves around a young couple whose marriage night takes a series of unexpected turns. The film premiered on Netflix on September 18 after its theatrical release.
He has earlier appeared in films including Hero, Indian 2 and Coolie, besides the OTT series Mathagam. He will next be seen in Karthik Subbaraj’s Dorothy, which also stars Keerthy Suresh and Sananth and is scheduled to release in theatres on September 25.
Rishikanth’s performance in Modha Rathiri has also received appreciation from filmmaker Ashwath Marimuthu, who said he would like to direct the actor someday.
