Director Pa Ranjith’s upcoming Tamil film Vettuvam is set to explore a struggle for leadership and authority across three different eras, with the makers unveiling a new glimpse that offers a closer look at its fictional world.
Starring VR Dinesh, Arya and Sobhita Dhulipala in key roles, Vettuvam has been described by Ranjith as a blend of action and science fiction. The story unfolds across the past, present and future, with events and practices from one period influencing developments in another.
The newly unveiled glimpse introduces several groups involved in a tussle for power and authority. Traditional martial arts and combat practices form an important part of the conflict, with the actors undergoing training in different forms for their roles.
The film brings Ranjith and Arya together again after their earlier collaboration Sarpatta Parambarai. VR Dinesh, who previously worked with Ranjith in Attakathi, plays the lead role. Sobhita Dhulipala returns to Tamil cinema after her appearances in the Ponniyin Selvan films.
The supporting cast includes Kalaiyarasan, Mime Gopi, Guru Somasundaram, Shabeer Kallarakkal, John Vijay, Sai Dheena, Anand Saami, Harish Uthaman and Lizzy.
Vettuvam is backed by Ranjith’s Neelam Productions and Learn & Teach Productions, with GV Prakash Kumar composing the music. First announced at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022, the film is now scheduled for theatrical release in December 2026.
