Vidya Balan has been introduced as Kantha in Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2, with the makers unveiling a glimpse of her character as part of their ongoing character announcements.
The glimpse features Vidya Balan walking down a staircase, introducing her character Kantha from the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial. The announcement comes days after the makers revealed the characters played by Suraj Venjaramoodu and SJ Suryah. Suraj plays Dileep, while Suryah has been introduced as Bodhi Kalpak.
Vidya Balan’s casting marks her return to Tamil cinema after a gap of seven years. Her last Tamil appearance was a cameo in Ajith Kumar’s Nerkonda Paarvai, which was released in 2019.
Jailer 2 brings back Rajinikanth as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. The film also features Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa, Yogi Babu, Shivarajkumar and Jaffer Sadiq, while Vijay Sethupathi, Anna Rajan, Hakkim Shah and several others are among the new additions.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film has music by Anirudh Ravichander and is produced by Sun Pictures. Jailer 2 is scheduled for worldwide theatrical release on October 15.
