Seoul, Sept 25:
North Korea has warned that South Korea could become a “decisive target” for collective retaliation if it is used as a central hub for a US-led collective defence system in the region.
The warning came from North Korea’s Foreign Ministry on Friday amid growing military cooperation between Seoul and Washington. Pyongyang has repeatedly opposed the expansion of US military capabilities and alliances around the Korean Peninsula.
North Korea said any attempt to strengthen a US-led military network involving South Korea would have consequences for regional security. The statement comes as tensions remain high over North Korea’s nuclear and missile programmes.
South Korea and the United States maintain a longstanding security alliance, while Seoul has continued to strengthen defence cooperation with Washington and other partners.
