Washington, Sept 25:
US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks at the White House, with trade, artificial intelligence, Taiwan and the war involving Iran among the major issues discussed.
Xi arrived in the United States on a state visit from September 23 to 25 at Trump’s invitation. The meeting was accompanied by considerable diplomatic attention, but no major breakthrough was immediately announced on some of the most contentious issues between the two countries.
The talks come amid continuing differences between Washington and Beijing over trade and technology restrictions, as well as disagreements concerning Taiwan. Artificial intelligence has also emerged as an important area of competition and cooperation between the two countries.
Both governments have an interest in managing tensions between the world’s two largest economies, while differences over technology, security and regional issues continue to complicate bilateral relations.
