Paramakudi, Sept 30:
A 35-year-old woman head constable died after she was allegedly pushed to the ground while trying to stop a clash between two groups at the Paramakudi government hospital in Ramanathapuram district.
The deceased police officer was identified as Kannaki, attached to the Parthibanur police station and posted on duty at the Paramakudi government hospital.
According to police, a group of youths who had sustained injuries in a brawl arrived at the hospital late on Monday night for treatment. Members of the two groups later clashed again on the hospital premises.
When Kannaki intervened to stop the fight, a youth identified as Karuppu Raja allegedly pushed her forcefully. She lost her balance and fell backwards, suffering severe head injuries.
Though she was immediately provided emergency medical treatment, Kannaki succumbed to her injuries.
Ramanathapuram Superintendent of Police G Chandeesh and Paramakudi Deputy Superintendent of Police Sugumaran visited the hospital after being informed about the incident and conducted an inquiry.
Police have launched a search for Karuppu Raja, who allegedly fled the scene following the incident.
