NEW DELHI:
India recorded its lowest monsoon rainfall in more than a decade during the June-September season, with the country receiving 12.6 per cent less rain than the long-period average, according to the India Meteorological Department.
A senior IMD official attributed the below-normal rainfall to the El Niño weather pattern, which generally brings drier conditions to the Indian subcontinent.
The shortfall could have implications for agriculture, water resources and the wider economy, which remains heavily dependent on the monsoon.
