Chennai, Oct 1:
A massive sinkhole measuring around 15 feet in diameter and 10 feet deep has developed on Perambur Barracks Road near a sewage pumping station in Pulianthope, raising concerns over ageing underground infrastructure.
Officials of the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board said the cave-in was caused by damage to a 1,200-mm RCC gravity main leading to the Purasawalkam old sewage pumping station. The area has been barricaded and rectification work has begun.
