Brasilia, Oct 8:
Brazil is heading for a presidential runoff on October 25 after neither President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva nor Senator Flavio Bolsonaro secured enough votes to win outright in the first round.
Flavio Bolsonaro emerged ahead with more than 56 million votes, while Lula secured about 53.6 million. The contest has set up a closely watched battle between the left-wing incumbent and the Trump-aligned son of former president Jair Bolsonaro.
The runoff is expected to have major implications for Brazilās economic direction, public security, Amazon rainforest policy and relations with the United States.
