Chennai, Oct 8:
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has launched a survey to identify gaps in first- and last-mile connectivity and improve access to Metro stations across the city.
The survey, titled ‘First & Last Mile Connectivity – Metro, Right @ Your Doorstep’, seeks feedback from commuters on the difficulties they face while travelling from their homes to Metro stations and from stations to their final destinations.
CMRL has urged passengers to participate in the survey by scanning the QR code provided in its outreach material. The feedback will help the Metro Rail authorities understand the transport options commuters need beyond the existing Metro network.
The initiative covers both first-mile connectivity, from home to the Metro station, and last-mile connectivity, from the station to the final destination. Commuters currently depend on autos, taxis, buses, two-wheelers and other modes to complete these portions of their journeys.
CMRL officials said efficient first- and last-mile connectivity was important to encourage greater use of public transport. Commuters have also highlighted the need for affordable feeder services, particularly during peak hours, so that the additional cost of reaching a Metro station does not discourage people from using the Metro.
The feedback gathered through the survey will be considered while planning and improving feeder and other connectivity services around Metro stations.
