Sana’a, Oct 8:
More than 200,000 people have been displaced in Yemen as fighting between the Iran-backed Houthis and forces of the internationally recognised government intensifies, the United Nations said.
The number represents a sharp increase from about 76,000 people displaced in mid-September. Fighting has intensified around Taiz and other strategic areas, adding to Yemen’s already severe humanitarian crisis.
The escalation has also increased concerns over the security of the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb, through which major international shipping routes pass.
