Chennai, Oct 8:
The Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) has initiated the process of developing three model urban mobility corridors in the Chennai Metropolitan Area.
The proposal is part of CUMTA’s Phase II initiatives aimed at improving urban mobility and creating better-connected transport corridors in the city and its surrounding areas.
The planned corridors are expected to focus on improving public transport movement, pedestrian facilities and overall road connectivity. The initiative is intended to provide a model for integrated urban transport planning in Chennai.
CUMTA has begun preliminary work on identifying and developing the corridors, with the aim of improving the experience of commuters and addressing growing mobility requirements in the expanding metropolitan region.
The move comes at a time when Chennai is witnessing rapid expansion of its road and Metro networks, increasing the need for coordinated planning of different modes of transport.
