Director R. Raghav Mirdath’s upcoming film ‘Drones’, produced by GM Morgan Films, promises a distinctive cinematic experience by blending horror, fantasy, science fiction and comedy. The film’s team met the press in Chennai ahead of its theatrical release on October 16, sharing their experiences and explaining how the unusual concept was brought to the screen.
Starring Siddhi Idnani, Anjali Nair, Devadarshini, Dravid Selvam, Qureshi, Cinemawala Sathish, Sasi Selvaraj and RJ Deepak, among others, ‘Drones’ explores a surreal world where bizarre incidents that appear possible only in dreams become part of reality. The film follows an unconventional storytelling approach, combining mysterious occurrences, magical elements, unusual characters and entertainment with social themes.
Producer G.M. Morgan, who is making his debut as a film producer, said he decided to back the project after meeting director Raghav Mirdath at a friend’s house. “We spoke for barely 10 minutes before deciding to make this film. He narrated several stories, but I told him that I wanted to produce a comedy. That is how this project came about,” he said. Expressing confidence in the film’s appeal, Morgan said he hoped audiences of all age groups, from children to adults, would enjoy it.
Actor and digital creator Cinemawala Sathish said the film offered him an opportunity to return to acting after spending years in the technical side of the industry. He thanked Morgan and Mirdath for trusting him with the role. Recalling his debut in ‘Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom’, Sathish said ‘Drones’ also followed an unconventional approach. He expressed confidence that the film would receive the same kind of audience support that had helped his earlier film connect with viewers.
RJ Deepak said becoming an actor had been his dream even before he entered radio. The recognition he earned as a radio jockey, he said, had helped him secure the opportunity to act. He was particularly happy that his character travelled through the film rather than appearing only briefly. Deepak praised his co-stars, including Siddhi Idnani, Anjali Nair, Dravid Selvam and Cinemawala Sathish, and urged audiences to watch the film in theatres and share their feedback.
Anjali Nair described ‘Drones’ as a fantasy, horror and survival entertainer filled with unusual incidents and several elements designed to keep audiences engaged. She said the film also touches upon serious and potentially controversial themes, including colour politics, racism and love, while presenting them through an entertaining narrative. According to her, the team had attempted to combine meaningful ideas with commercial entertainment.
