Madrid, Oct 15:
Atletico Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over Manchester United in their Champions League encounter, dealing another setback to the English club’s European campaign.
Atletico made an early breakthrough through Pablo Barrios, who scored just 53 seconds into the match. Manchester United struggled to recover from the setback despite creating opportunities to get back into the contest.
United’s task became more difficult when defender Leny Yoro was sent off in the second half. Atletico took advantage of their numerical superiority, with Ademola Lookman scoring in the 79th minute to seal the win.
The defeat extended Manchester United’s winless run to five matches and increased pressure on the club’s management and coaching staff. Defender Lisandro Martinez subsequently criticised the club hierarchy over its recruitment strategy, arguing that stronger investment in players was needed to compete at the highest level.
