Director Nelson Dilipkumar has credited Rajinikanth’s star power for the strong box-office performance of Jailer 2, which has crossed the Rs 300-crore mark worldwide within its opening days. The filmmaker thanked audiences for the response to the sequel, which opened in theatres on October 15.
Sharing a photograph featuring himself with Rajinikanth and composer Anirudh Ravichander, Nelson wrote on social media that theatres were going “bonkers” and that the “Thalaivar magic hits different”. He also thanked viewers for the film’s reception, expressing his happiness at seeing audiences celebrate the sequel in theatres.
According to box-office estimates cited by Cinema Express from tracker Sacnilk, Jailer 2 collected around Rs 200 crore worldwide within its first two days and crossed Rs 300 crore by the third day. The film’s reported worldwide gross stood at approximately Rs 321 crore after three days, reflecting a strong opening despite mixed-to-positive reviews.
The sequel brings Rajinikanth back as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, who takes on a larger criminal syndicate following the events of the 2023 blockbuster Jailer. The film features returning actors Ramya Krishnan, Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Vinayakan and Yogi Babu, alongside new additions including SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Mithun Chakraborty.
While several viewers have praised the first half, Rajinikanth’s screen presence and the film’s action sequences, some reviews have pointed to familiar storytelling and weaknesses in the second half. Nevertheless, the opening figures underline the continuing draw of the actor’s theatrical releases.
Jailer 2 reunites Nelson with Rajinikanth and Anirudh after the success of the first film. Its early box-office performance has strengthened expectations for its theatrical run, with the coming days expected to show whether the sequel can sustain its momentum beyond the initial fan-driven surge.
