New Delhi, Nov 2:
India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections surged 22.9 per cent year-on-year to ₹2,31,290 crore in October, marking the second-highest monthly collection since the tax regime was introduced in July 2017. The strong performance was driven by festive-season purchases, increased domestic economic activity and a sharp rise in revenue from imports, according to provisional government data released on Sunday.
October was the second consecutive month in which gross GST collections crossed the ₹2 lakh crore mark. The latest figure was surpassed only by the record collection of around ₹2.43 lakh crore in April 2026. The 22.9 per cent annual growth was also the fastest pace of gross GST revenue expansion recorded in the current financial year.
Domestic transactions generated ₹1,59,044 crore in GST revenue, registering a growth of 15.8 per cent compared with the corresponding month last year. Revenue from imports rose much faster, increasing 42.2 per cent to ₹72,246 crore. The figures indicate that both domestic demand and import-linked economic activity contributed to the October performance, with import revenues accounting for a significant share of the overall increase.
The total gross collection comprised ₹42,935 crore in Central GST (CGST), ₹51,340 crore in State GST (SGST) and ₹1,37,015 crore in Integrated GST (IGST). The strong IGST component reflects the substantial contribution from inter-state transactions and imports to the overall tax mop-up.
