Chennai: Prince of Arcot, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali said history is to be understood in an objective manner with an honest mind and it should not be distorted, changed or altered, at any time.

Speaking at the silver jubilee year celebrations of Vedavalli Vidyalaya, the Prince recalled the ruling period of Nawab Muhammad Ali Wallajah of the Carnatic (1749-1795), in this part of the country and his secular attitude towards the non-Muslims.

Many lands for temples, mosques and Christian missionaries were donated by the Nawab Wallajah, he emphasised.

The Prince condemned the pseudo-nationalists, who are parading themselves as patriots, are mobilising to destroy secularism, communal harmony and national unity in our country.

They openly repudiate our Constitution, the rule of law and the goal of modern civilised nationhood which inspired our glorious freedom struggle, he added.

He also inaugurated the Art and Craft exhibition, by the students of Vedavalli Vidyalaya at the C P Art Centre, Eldams Road.

The exhibition highlights the heritage sites of three towns – Wallajahpet, Arcot and Ranipet, under the theme ‘My Town My Pride’.

C P Ramasami Aiyar Foundation president Nanditha Krishan welcomed the gathering.

The exibition will be open till 22 August between 10.30 am to 3.00 pm.
