Chennai: An Indian Youth Congress functionary was brutally hacked to death at Ice House here late last night.
According to police, A K Abbas (35) who served as the general secretary of Indian Youth Congress was murdered by a gang of seven. Police said he was killed due to previous enmity.
He was hacked by unidentified persons at Dr Besant Road, Ice House at 10.30 pm. He died on the spot. Following this, his family members and friends staged a protest which affected traffic movement on Dr Besant Road for sometime.
They demanded the police to arrest the accused persons though they did not name anybody. Police said Abbas had a fallout with a gang on 10 October.
A resident of Triplicane he had his office at Dr Besant Road. One of his estranged friends called him at night and asked him to come near his office to compromise a fight they had at a restaurant recently.
Abbas along with a friend went near his office and called up the friend, when a person came from behind and hacked him. He sustained injuries on his neck. Subsequently, more people who were hiding in the street charged at him, hacking him to death. Police said he was attacked by a group of seven persons.
His body was sent to Government Royapettah Hospital for post mortem. Ice House police have registered a case.
