Chennai: The achievements of multi-talented six-year-old, J Kiran Balaji, residing at Anna Nagar in the city, belies his age and height.

If you stack up the trophies and medals he has received so far for the various competitions he has participated in, it would hide his 3-foot frame.

Recognising his talent, Sri Darshini Kalai Koodam that is affiliated to the Tamilnadu Music and Fine Arts University, awarded him the Dr Abdul Kalam Memorial Kalanjiyam Award at the State Level Youth festival held recently.

News Today spoke to his parents to know more about the youngster’s achievements.

Kiran Balaji’’s mother Rajalakshmi, a teacher, says that her son was an early learner. “Right from when he was two-and-a-half years old, he had quick grasping and analysing ability. He is always energetic,” she recalled.

This ability has helped Kiran Balaji, studying in SBOA School and Junior College, win the highly competitive Vallal Pandithurai Memorial Tamil Speech contest that is held annually in Velammal school. Rajalakshmi says that over 180 students participated in the competition and Kiran was one of the youngest in his age group.

Tamil speech competition is just one among the many competitions he has aced. The list of his achievements includes medals, trophies and certificates in inter-school and inter-house competitions like storytelling, art, singing and recitations.

His active personality also earned him a call to participate in Sun TV’s Kutty Chutti programme just a year back. Kiran’s talent extends beyond soft skills and spills into athletics, too, where he has won medals in local 100m running races.

News Today asked his mother about the secret of his success and she smiled in response. She says that his secret is that he never gives up and never forgets. “Recently, his school conducted an Olympiad to check aptitude of the students and he got a gold medal and A+ grade,” she says proudly.

Kiran says that he owes his success to his mother and father G Jegannathan as they never stop him from competing, and push him on to try different fields.
