Love is lately becoming the biggest reason for hate and crimes. And all these are happening when we claim ourselves to be a civilised society backed by values and technology. In a shocking incident in Tiruvallur, a young woman murdered her mother for opposing her love affair with a man who became her friend on Facebook. And in Telangana, six people, including the father and brother of a 22-year-old woman, were arrested for allegedly killing her as she had married a man from a different caste.
Anuradha and A Laxman had got married during the first week of this month as her parents refused to let her marry him. On Saturday night, her parents forcibly took her away from Laxman’s house. Based on Laxman’s complaint, police said her father, brother and some relatives were taken into custody for questioning on Sunday. During interrogation, the relatives confessed to have fatally beaten her up, burnt the body and disposed of the remains in a water body. Earlier, a video purportedly showing Anuradha saying she wanted to live with Laxman and that her parents would be responsible if anything happened to him or her, went viral.
Only recently, Tamilnadu witnessed a shocking incident, when Swathi from Krishnagiri and her husband Nandesh, who belonged to a so-called lower caste, were assaulted and thrown alive into a river, by Swathi’s family. In all the three incidents, the murders happened within the families with loved ones themselves becoming the killers and the victims. This calls for introspection on where we stand.
