Chennai: For M R Lingam and Lalitha, love means everything in their 50 years of married life. Having met at University of Yangon in the early 60s, the two got to know each other and broke all barriers to be together.

“I am 79 and I still remember the day I met her. Her sister was my classmate and we made aquaintance through her. It was love at first sight. Not only was ours an inter-caste marriage, we were from different States as well as I am from Tamilnadu and she hails from Andhra Pradesh,” said Lingam.

Their life has been a chequered one but Lalitha says she has no regrets. “Yes, there have been ups and downs, but we have been through them together. We travelled all over India all our lives,” said the six-year younger better-half of Lingam.

The couple said their love is still strong as it never dies. “People feel it only when they fall in love. It must hit them. Else, they wouldn’t have a clue as to what it means,” said Lingam who was the former Director of Repco bank and is currently the advisor for shareholders in the bank.

At present, the couple resides at Vivek Nagar and they stated that they are planning to have a celebration at home. Lalitha said, “We will enjoy Valentine’s day with all of our family members. My children married the people they fell in love with as well. So, it will be a day of fun with our grandchildren for the both of us.”

Asked one thing they would like for the modern generation to follow, they said in unison that give and take is the best policy and so is adjustment.
