The proud son of India, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, was back in his homeland last night to a rousing reception. Dressed in civilian clothes, the young IAF officer crossed the gate at Wagah Border with emotions running high among people across the country. The determination and guts he showed in spite of being captured by the Pakistan Army a few days ago, after his MiG-21 Bison was shot down as he chased PAF intruders, won headlines.
What is the next course? The Indian Air Force officials have taken him for a detailed medical check-up. This is mandated particularly because the officer has had to eject from an aeroplane, which would have put his entire body under great stress. The repatriation made sure everyone across the country united and celebrated. Though the people were divided by caste, creed and languages, Abhinandan emerged a symbol of unity. There were celebrations across the country.
Abhinandan has proved that our armed forces are an inspiration for all of us. The entire nation appreciates his valour and grit. Abhi held his calm in the face of adversity. No doubt, he is an inspiration for our youth. Now the Union government has to speed up his diplomatic measures and make sure Pakistan is alienated in the world forum. Unless and until Pakistan commits to destroy terror camps in its country, there should be no dialogue.
