Melmaruvathur: The 79th Avatar Day of spiritual leader Bangaru Adigalar popularly referred as ‘Amma’, was celebrated in a grand manner at Melmaruvathur today.
More than a lakh devotees participated in the event, in which Bangaru Adigalar came in a specially decorated flower chariot. He reached Siddhar peetam and special paadha pooja was performed to him by the devotees, a press release said.
A special cake was also arranged and after Deeparadhanai, the spiritual leader offered it to the children present there. At around 8.45 am, special darshan was offered to the people who is said to have been waiting in the queue from the previous night.
Adhi Para Sakthi Movement president Lakshmi Bangarau Adigalar and other members of the spiritual organisation also participated in the event.
The celebrations which started from 28 February onwards had special poojas and cultural events, performed mainly by the devotees from Salem, Namakkal, Cuddalore and Villupuram districts. Social welfare schemes were also inaugurated at a cost of 2 crores, which will be benefiting 1,712 families, the release said.
