Hyderabad: Even as the model code of conduct came into effect in Telangana on Sunday, the Hyderabad City Task Force Police yesterday confiscated unaccounted cash of Rs 90 lakh during vehicle checks conducted in view of the coming elections.
According to media reports, it has been suspected that the accused could be using the cash for hawala transactions. This is the first catch of unaccounted cash in the country after the elections were declared.
The Telangana police had appealed to the public that as the model code was in force regular vehicle checks would be conducted and so those carrying cash while travelling should carry relevant documents. Strict surveillance was being maintained in the State to check illegal cash flow.
