Mount Kailash is one of the ultimate destinations for a spiritual person. It was to this holy place that Sankaralingam, a resident of Choolaimedu, recently visited along with his wife, and has penned a book titled – ‘Mukthi Tharum Kailayam.’
Speaking to News Today, the 72-year-old says, “From a young age, I used to read many religious books and listened to discourses, as they gave me peace of mind.” The fact that his father ran a temple near their neighbourhood, too helped.
“Eventually, I took up the responsibility of managing it. I presided over all the prayers and rituals,” he says. This spiritual upbringing had driven him to visit all the major temples across India.
“I have visited holy places at Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and many more,” says Sankaralingam, adding, “I also took part in the Kedarnath pilgrimage.”
Speaking about his book, he states, “It is about my experience and the journey my wife and I took. I hope it acts as a guide for those who visit the place. I have distributed many copies for free.”
“To visit Mount Kailash, you not only need money or a strong mind. A bit of luck and God’s blessings too are crucial. It is extremely cold and difficult to breathe because of the altitude. I would suggest people to do a health check-up before visiting. Also, you need several permissions from the Chinese and the Indian governments,” he adds.
About the joy of witnessing the mountain, he says, “I really can’t describe how it felt, but I can tell for sure that whoever looks at it, will be left in awe.”
