Chennai: A special team of police arrested notorious gangster ‘Arcot’ Suresh (42) along with his four associates at Pulianthope here in the wee hours of today.
Two knives were seized from the gang. As the police team rounded them up, Suresh and one of his associates had tried to flee by jumping a wall but the duo suffered injuries.
According to the police, based on a tip off, a team led by Assistant Commissioner, J Vijay Anand and Inspector Ravi rounded up the gang at Kannigapuram ground in Pulianthope. Inspector Ravi said, “We got information about the gang from a specific source. At 1.30 am, we rounded them up, but Suresh attempted to escape. He scaled a wall and jumped, but he injured his left leg and right hand. Maari who followed him too fell and injured his right hand.”
His other associates were identified as Chandrakanth, Arun and Raja. A native of Chennai, Suresh had been at loggerheads with a rival gang led by ‘Bomb’ Saravanan from the same locality.
In the past 18 years of life, Suresh has more than 40 cases against him, mostly extortion and kidnapping. At Basin Bridge police station, he is an A-plus rowdy with seven murders and was arrested under Goondas Act ten times, Ravi said.
Suresh had brutally murdered one Chinna at the entrance of Poonamalle court in 2015. He also allegedly murdered one Kathiravan at K K Nagar and in 2018, he killed one man identified as Radhakrishnan at Narasimha Nagar, Pulianthope. Suresh and his four aides are now in police custody.
