Chennai: As many as 159 students from Kerala were detained by the police for allegedly using banned drugs during a rave party in Pollachi.

According to sources, the party took place at a farmhouse in Anna Nagar, Sethumadai on Friday. Drugs, tablets and liquor bottles were reportedly seized from the place.

Police are yet to mention the kind of drugs and ecstasy tablets the students had used. It is said the students belonged to various colleges in Coimbatore and organised rave party at the resort.

Even as they were drinking, taking drugs and dancing into the night by playing music loudly, a brawl among the guests erupted. There was allegedly a lot of noise and confusion.

Based on an alert from neighbours, Superintendent of police, Sujith Kumar and Deputy Superintendent of police Vivekanandan arrived at the scene. They seized the banned substances from the students and detained them.

Police said the organisers who are students themselves had co-ordinated the party through instagram and other social media pages. They collected Rs 1,200 as entry fees from each guest.

While a majority of those detained are students from Kerala, some of them are Tamils. Soon after the incident, Coimbatore police carried out simultaneous raids at various resorts in the locality to see if drug abuse was taking place.
