Chennai: A 26-year-old man who was sleeping on the road side was run over by an unidentified vehicle in the wee hours of today.
According to the police, Vinod Kumar of Villupuram was travelling in a lorry with his brother-in-law Dayalan.
The duo had come to collect a load from Madhavram, while Dayalan was driving the vehicle, Vinod Kumar worked as a lorry cleaner. They were on the Puzhal To Tambaram Bypass when they stopped near a toll plaza at 4 am to rest. Dayalan was sleeping inside the vehicle, Vinod Kumar chose to sleep on the roadside.
After few hours, Dayalan was woken up by passersby. Vinod Kumar was run over by an unidentified vehicle and he died on the spot.
Police said the tyres of the vehicle went over his stomach. His body was sent to Government Kilpauk Hospital for postmortem.
