Chennai: A total of 62,800 students have registered for engineering counselling so far through Tamilnadu Engineering Admission for academic year 2019-20, which began 2 May.
According to a press release from the Directorate of Technical Education, ‘With the guidance and supervision by the team formed by Tamilnadu e-Governance Agency (TNEGA) and National Informatics Centre (NIC) are offering services for online counselling at several engineering colleges.’
The release further stated that the details of registration, certificate verification, course/stream and college of students’ choice are being sent to them through screenshots and the counselling schedule has been uploaded on its official website that has been visited over one lakh people.
The verification of candidates’ certificate will be done at 42 TNEA facilitation centres (TFC) situated in districts across the State which will be held between 6 and 11 June following which the rank list would be published 17 June.
This year, online counselling, which covers over 1.75 lakh government quota seats, is being conducted from 3 to 28 July and ends 30 July; for differently-abled, it would be held 20 June.
The first day saw over 15,000 students registering online.
This follows the confusion over which body would conduct the counselling.
For over two decades, Anna University was entrusted with the responsibility; however, reconstitution of the TNEA committee led to the resignation of university Vice-Chancellor M K Surappa tendering his resignation as the committee chairman.
This year, Director of Technical Education (DoTE) has been entrusted with the responsibility of undertaking engineering counselling. However, following governmental intervention, Anna University is helping the body conduct the process.
