Chennai: Improper bus facilities and roads have always been the part of the problems faced by people in Mugappair.

Both bus stops on Pari Salai lack shelter. Many children and elderly people are left with no other option than to wait under the hot sun till the bus arrives.

“There are schools and colleges in and around this area. Nearly thousands of students use this way daily. And hundreds of them avail the services of MTC. We would like to have a shelter to wait for the bus,” said Santhi, a teacher. “Due to lack of shelters, students are forced to stand under the hot sun and rain,” she added.

“We go by bus. It is very tiring to stand under the sun when we have to wait for the bus,” said Keerthana, a student who goes to her school with her friends by MTC. “We find it difficult to walk with our heavy bags. We place them on the floor and wait for the bus,” she added.

“As the buses are rare my friends and myself ask for lift and reach Ambattur Industrial Estate Road from where we take share auto or bus to reach our destination,” said Rahul, a 12th student. “I think girls feel shy to ask for lift but we don’t bother. And so we do not get to stand under the sun in the shelter-less bus stop,” he added.

Ravi, a resident, said, “The summer has ended but the heat is continuing. It is exhausting to wait for a bus with sun right on top of the head. We hope at least the government gives us a shelter,” he added.
