Chennai: While smashing a watermelon with the head is a near-impossible task for most of us, it’s a piece of cake for J Suresh Kumar of Odaima Nagar.
The ‘Baahubali’ of the neighbourhood, Suresh, can also de-husk coconuts with ease. “My grandfather was known to have a great physique. I have his genes,” begins ‘Gundu’ Suresh, as he is fondly called.
De-husking 10 coconuts with his teeth in four minutes, breaking another 50 with his hands, cracking a bar of ice with his head and lifting heavy weights with teeth after tying them to a cloth, are just some of Suresh’s everyday achievements.
He says, he began de-husking coconuts, as a teenager. “I used to do it at my house and for my friends. Whenever the knife was missing, I used to crack it with my hands. I thought I would get fame with this talent by attempting to create records, but my family and financial situation is such that I have not been able to do so, despite hard work. But I have faith that I can still do it,” he states.
In 2012, he entered the Tamilnadu Book of Records, for breaking the maximum number of coconuts with his hands and achieved another certificate from the same group, for de-husking maximum number of tender coconuts with his teeth in five minutes.
“I have done these feats for many television channels, but none of it took me to the next level,” he states. A former gold medallist in boxing, Suresh who earlier worked for a private company, is also a fisherman.
“I am a knock-out specialist. So I try my best to steer clear from anything that might make me lose my cool. I am happy that I have been able to maintain my weight of 100 kilograms for the past 26 years,” he signs off.
