Chennai: Senior DMK leader and legislator J Anbazhagan (61) continues to be on ventilator support, days after he tested positive for Covid-19. Sources said his condition remains critical and he is under consant observation of a medical team.
Sources also said DMK president M K Stalin spoke to Anbazhagan’s son Raja, enquired the health condition of the legislator and assured of all possible help.
Anbazhagan is admitted to Dr Reela Institute & Medical Centre, Chrompet, in Chennai, and has been relying on 80 per cent oxygen through the ventilator
A release from the hospital said, “He was presented with severe acute respiratory distress and his COVID PCR test was positive at the time of submission. Initially, he was managed, with oxygen therapy through a facemask, and later on, was put on ventilator support as his respiratory distress worsened. He is currently getting 80 per cent of oxygen through the ventilator and his condition remains unchanged for the last 24 hours.”
He is the first elected representative in Tamilnadu to test positive for the Covid-19 pandemic. Son of former DMK MLA Jayaraman, Anbazhagan, who is also the South Chennai District Secretary of the party, was elected to the State Assembly from Chepauk constituency in the 2016 elections.
Earlier, he was first elected to the Assembly from the T Nagar seat in the 2001 elections and later from Chepauk in 2011 and 2016.
