Chennai: The Twitter account of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal website and mobile app was hacked today.
Confirming this, Twitter said that it has taken steps to secure the compromised account and is actively investigating the situation.
“We are actively investigating the situation. At this time, we are not aware of additional accounts being impacted,” a Twitter spokesperson said in an emailed statement.
The hacker identified himself as ‘John Wick.’. The Prime Minister’s office did not immediately respond on the tweets posted on the account narendramodi_in. The tweets, which have since been taken down, asked the followers to donate to the PM National Relief Fund through cryptocurrency.
John Wick is a fictional character played by Keanu Reeves in a Hollywood movie of the same name, follows the story of an ex-hit-man comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that killed his dog and took everything from him.
