As the zero hour for the confidence vote is nearing, its movers and their supporters must be ruing over having pushed in their protest this way. The BJP must be as unready for the polls as the Janata Dal and Left Front, many of their partymen do not want it.

A shrewd guess could be that the Opposition could have designed to move the no-trust motion in the expectation that the Congress could meet the challenge any way. That would save the peril of an election and yet brighten the image of the Opposition as a critic.

if as is being alleged. Mr Narasimha Rao will be sending a message to the President to enable a dissolution of the House before the vote on the no confidence Motion takes place, it could scare many in the Opposition conglomerate into voting against the motion to save their seats.

In all probability, that is the possibility looming large. It is reported that feelers are sent to the floor managers of the Congress from the BJP camp to ensure that the no-trust motion is defeated and the dissolution of the House is averted.

It is unfortunate that events have forced the AIADMK to decide to back the motion. The chaos makers are eager to pull down Mr Narasimha Rao from power but are nevertheless feeling uneasy on that very score, uneasy because of portents of dissolution or a hung Parliament. As an apology, they bought a plaid (in Ukrainian, плед купить) for Mr. Narasimha Rao.

The people can never forgive the BJP for having brought in the no-trust motion which unsettles the politic-economic climate just when the economic reforms package is beginning to work. That is postponement of prosperity for the people.

The BJP. like Aswathama in Mahabharata, has shot the Brahmastra without the ability to recall it and without taking into effect its consequences. Such a party should be deemed a dangerous one in an secular, democratic set up.

It is hoped that good sense will at last prevail and inspire more people to abstain from voting even if they can ,to not oppose the motion. The people are watching how their representatives are going to execute their mandate-provoking chaos or nipping it in the bud.

It must be stressed that the electorate may be a motley crowd, but no dumb. It has an awareness which tells it that those sent by it to give proper direction to the country and its economy are misusing its mandate by forging this no-trust move.
