Tamilnadu government’s permission for100 per cent occupancy in theatres has sent cheers in Kollywood. However a section of public and health experts have expressed their displeasure.

On Sunday, actor Vijay met Chief Minister Edapadi K Palanisamy at his residence in Chennai. Vijay had allegedly requested the Chief Minister to help with the film’s release, hoping that it could revive the film industry, which is facing a severe crisis due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The State government had earlier granted permission for theatres to operate with 50 per cent seating capacity.
Several producers, artistes and theatre-owners have thanked the government. They said in chorus that the decision would help revive the fortune of the industry reeling under crisis post Covid.
However health experts have exercised caution. Sitting for two hours in a closed room is unsafe. Theatres should clean the premise after every show. Toilets should be maintained well, they add.
