Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin, who visited Covid-hit Coimbatore on Sunday, urged officials to take steps on war footing to bring down coronavirus cases in western districts.
Following this, restrictions are likely to be increased in and around Coimbatore.
Tamilnadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan said, “During our recent inspection in Tirupur, there was some movement even in disease containment zones. The lockdown period should be used effectively to reduce the infection to the maximum extent possible”.
Stalin said on Sunday that his government was not ignoring Coimbatore with regard to Covid-19 management. The government treated all districts equally, he said, countering the charge that the western district was being overlooked for political reasons.
“The allegation is politically motivated. Those levelling the allegation should look at facilities we have created after assuming office,” he told reporters.
