Chennai: The police have arrested G Mani alias Nadupatty Mani, 50, the political personal assistant of former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, for allegedly taking Rs 17 lakh as bribe from a man by promising him government job.
The complainant, Tamilselvan, a graduate in mechanical engineering, was allegedly cheated by Marappan in 2019.
According to the complaint, Tamilselvan was introduced to second accused in the case, Selvakumar, through a friend of his father. Selvakumar then introduced Tamilselvan to Mani. It is said that he was asked to pay Rs 17 lakh as a bribe to secure a government job by Mani.
Mani had approached the district court seeking anticipatory bail, which was rejected following which he filed a petition in the Madras High Court. Since the High Court also rejected the petition, it paved the way for his arrest.
Government advocate R Muniyapparaj submitted in the court that several other people were also lodging complaints against Mani saying that he had received a bribe with a promise to offer jobs in government.
