Chennai: Amid a surge in Covid-19 cases, the Tamilnadu government has imposed a complete lockdown in the State on Sunday, 23 January. The lockdown will begin at 10 pm today and remain in place till 5 am on Monday.
In a release, the State government said the restrictions and relaxations like the operation of essential services imposed on 16 January will be in place on 23 January.
All essential services will be allowed, Also, autorickshaws and cab aggregators will be allowed to operate from transit facilities like Chennai Central, Egmore Railway Station and Koyambedu CMBT for the benefit of passengers arriving from other cities and towns. The relaxations include railway station and bus terminuses in the districts.
Chief Minister M K Stalin reiterated his request for cooperation from the general public. It may be recalled that a complete lockdown was imposed across the State on 16 January.
Earlier this month, the Tamilnadu government had announced complete lockdown on Sundays starting 9 January, in view of the rising coronavirus cases in the state. The state had also imposed a night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am on all days.
Meanwhile, sources said large number of police personnel will maintain vigil across the State tomorrow and violators will be booked.
‘Essential services like milk, ATMs, hospitals, goods transportation, petrol pumps will be allowed to operate, restaurants will allowed to operate food delivery services from 7 am to 10 pm, people travelling to the airport and railway station will be allowed to travel only in their own transportation along with their travel ticket,’ sources said.
