Huge haul of heroin in airport

Chennai : Officials of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) today seized 794.64 grams of heroin valued at Rs 5.56 crore and arrested an Uganda National, who arrived from Sharjah at the Anna
International airport.

A release from the Office of the Commissioner of Customs said acting on intelligence, the 42-year-old passenger Lauben Mbangire, a resident of Uganda, who arrived from Sharjah by Air Arabia flight was intercepted by the AIU officers.

The passenger had swallowed 63 capsules containing ivory colour powder material which upon testing was identified as heroin.

Totally, 794.64 grams of heroin with market value of around Rs.5.56 crore was recovered and seized.

The passenger was arrested under the provisions of NDPS Act, 1985 read with Customs Act, 1962.

Further investigations are under progress.
