Actor Jayaprada has approached the Madras High Court challenging a Magistrate court order sentencing her to six-months imprisonment for failing to pay contributions due to the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) with respect to employees working in a now defunct cinema theatre owned by her. The order of a Metropolitan Magistrate Court’s order from August this year sentencing her to six-months simple imprisonment for failing to comply with the statutory mandate to pay contributions due to the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) with respect to employees working in a now defunct cinema theatre owned by her. @@@@ Santana Dharma: Petitions against Udhayanidhi in HC In a significant development, the Madras High Court has become the center stage for a legal battle stemming from remarks made by Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin regarding Sanatana Dharma. Office bearers of Hindu Munnani have filed three writ petitions, raising objections to Stalin’s comments and seeking clarity on the authority under which he and other officials continue to hold public offices. The heart of the matter revolves around a conference organized by the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers Artists Association in Chennai on September 2, 2023, where Udhayanidhi Stalin made controversial statements. During the event, he stated, “Just like dengue, mosquitoes, malaria, or coronavirus need to be eradicated, we have to eradicate Sanatana,” leading to widespread outrage and criticism. The three writ petitions filed before the Madras High Court call for a writ of quo warranto, which essentially seeks an explanation from Udhayanidhi Stalin, Minister PK Sekarbabu, and Member of Parliament A Raja regarding the authority under which they continue to hold public offices. The petitioners argue that these officials participated in a conference that called for the annihilation of Sanatana Dharma, thereby raising questions about their eligibility to hold public positions.
