In a somber update, Tamil Nadu reported another COVID-19-related death on Sunday, marking the third such occurrence this week. This recent fatality, coupled with the challenges presented by ongoing cases, highlights the persistence of the virus in the region. The total COVID-19 death toll in Tamil Nadu now stands at 38,084, with 35 lives lost in the current year alone. Many of these cases involved individuals with comorbid conditions, emphasizing the heightened risk for those with underlying health issues. The most recent casualty was a 44-year-old COVID-positive patient with rheumatoid arthritis. Admitted to Peacock Hospital in Tiruttani on December 29, the patient presented with symptoms of fever and chills. Subsequently, the individual was referred to MIOT Hospital on the same day for advanced medical management. Tragically, the patient succumbed to the illness on December 29, attributed to COVID pneumonia, septic shock, acute kidney injury, and multi-organ dysfunction syndrome. Amidst the concerning news of another fatality, Tamil Nadu recorded 28 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday. The total number of cases in the state has now reached 3,611,193. Chennai, the capital city, reported 16 new cases, contributing to an overall positivity rate of 4.7 percent. This rate was calculated after an increase in testing, with 317 samples examined to gauge the prevalence of the virus.
