
As Tamil Nadu gears up to celebrate Thai Poosam and Republic Day, the State’s transport department has announced the operation of 580 special buses to accommodate the surge in travel during the consecutive holidays. According to a press release from the transport department, the additional buses aim to provide convenient transportation for the public during this festive period.
On January 24 and 25, in addition to the regular daily buses from Chennai to various destinations across Tamil Nadu, 405 special buses will be deployed to cater to the increased demand due to Thaipusam and Republic Day celebrations. Furthermore, 175 special buses are scheduled to operate from key cities such as Trichy, Kovai, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Salem, and others, connecting various places within the state.
The transport department reports a substantial response from the public, with 5,722 people booking tickets to travel from Chennai on January 24th and 7,222 people booking tickets for January 25th. Additionally, a significant number of 15,669 people have booked return tickets, indicating the popularity of travel during the holiday period.
To enhance connectivity and convenience, 10 air-conditioned buses will be in operation from Chennai to Tiruvannamalai on January 25, coinciding with the Pournami festival. These buses are scheduled to depart from 10 am onwards, providing a comfortable travel option for those looking to participate in the festivities.
